Tam is three-time, award-winning filmmaker (Lucy in La La, Annie and Her Anger, Julie On Her Way) and an award-winning screenwriter (Love at the Grocery Store). Tam began making films in the Spring of 2003, when he wrote and directed his first short film called “The Last Kiss”. Later that year, he was asked by Magic City Films to write a feature-length screenplay called “Under the Influence”. In April 2004, he completed another short film, a dramedy called “A Day In November”, which was a semi-finalist at the Sometime in October Film Festival. In 2005, he was twice a finalist in the Sidewalk Scramble filmmaking competition and also a finalist in the Sidewalk Sidewrite short screenplay competition. In Fall 2005, he completed a documentary about the Vietnam War entitled “A Reunion of Soldiers” which was screened at the 19th Annual National Congress of Vietnamese Americans convention and has been acquired by many colleges and universities. In 2008, his short script, Love at the Grocery Store, was selected as the winner of the Sidewrite Production Prize and was produced by Filament Artists in 2009. The film was nominated for Best Short Film and Best Alabama Film. In 2010, his short film, Lucy in La La, won the Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film at the Sidewalk Film Festival. In 2011, he was able to capture the Audience Choice Award again with his short film, Annie and Her Anger. And in 2012, his latest film, Julie On Her Way, received the Kathryn Tucker Windham Award for Storytelling.
